Re: [UUPoly-L] American Sign Language

Hi Deaf Raven:

I've seen your name around on other poly lists.....perhaps the Expansive Loving's list too??  I have a history of Deaf family, including my former spouse who is profoundly Deaf and went to NTID.  I also have a former lover (fairly famous in the Deaf world) who is a mime and used to travel extensively....and cheat on me - a *lot* - I might add (if I'd been open to considering it then, I think poly might have been the way to go for us).  I'm a former teacher of Deaf students as well as a sign language instructor, interpreter and Deaf rights advocate (these are not my primary focuses now, but occasionally I am called to step into that roll again).

I know of a poly woman in the Arlington, VA area that is fluent and a former prof. at Gally (perhaps she or her partner have contacted you already?).  I'm in Lancaster Co. PA.  There are a handful (or so) of ASL fluent folks on the Expansive Loving list (link below, in my signature).

I always wonder what sort of asseccibility would be available for a Deaf poly folk wanting to participate in socials or gatherings (small and large).  Many of the activities I've gone to in the realms of tantra and sacred sexuality also seem challenging environments.  I'm always open to stepping up and assist in advocating for Deaf Poly-folk among us.

Peace:

Subject: [UUPoly-L] American Sign Language

Deaf Poly Friends,

I'm looking to platonically socialize outside my busy grad school schedule with other poly folks. I'm fluent in American Sign Language and do not lipread. I am studying at Gallaudet University (see www.gallaudet.edu) majoring in  Sign Language Teaching

I've been actively poly for about ten years now. Currently not with anyone and raising a 4 year old son (my wife Amy passed away from a long battle with cystic fibrosis last March 2008). I am on facebook under the name Johnny Schumacher. Let me know if there's any social event I can go on weekends to.
