Just like many of the current new social sites (Facebook comes to
mind), they're not doing anything illegal... *you* give your
permission for them to do all this. Michael's "pernicious" is exactly
the right word. On many Yahoo lists, you'll get banned for using
Grouply. And as a moderator, you can list your group as Do Not
Solicit and they'll leave you alone. I belong to several poly lists
there, and the last thing we want is to have private stories archived
and published by Grouply.
BTW, a lot of these social sites and convenience sites' contracts with
you grant them unlimited use of anything you submit to them, even
AFTER you unsubscribe. So read the fine print and choose your
bedfellows carefully.
