It hadn't disappeared by then; it just doesn't get talked about, because the
stories aren't about kings and other wealthy types who could *afford* more
than one wife.
Paul, in discussing the requirements to be a bishop, insists that candidates
should have *one* wife-- clearly implying that others could have more.
