Yes, they can.  Tilda Swinton is an Oscar-winning actress who went to the
academy awards with two of her lovers.  Many single actors and sports
figures have multiple lovers, and it isn't comment-worthy.  The scandal
comes when someone has promised *not* to have other lovers, which is part of
what most people consider marriage to be, and then breaks the promise.
